We're back for the 2008 season with brand new podcasts, a regular blog, and another year of Penn State Football. After a year of adjusting to the real world and working out our schedules we are back with weekly shows and blogging features on our new site. Check back in the next few days for a link to our new blog and send us an email with some of the things you would like to be part of the podcast or blog.

In this first edition of the new year we preview the offensive and defensive side of the ball for the 2008 campaign as well as discuss some of the recent headlines coming out of Happy Valley. Mark also gives us an update on some of the Nittany Lion Pros, including Morelli somehow making a professional team...

Not Sean Lee!

Well things didn't seem like they could get much worse for Penn State Football considering the stream of players being suspended, a coach with no contract and no plan, now the news that Sean Lee has torn a ligament in his knee and could miss next season. It is certainly raining on PSU football of late. More news will be released tomorrow on the extent of Lee's injury but it is apparently severe enough that a redshirt would be considered.

Michigan's Women's Basketball coach lost it a little bit after losing an eighteen point lead to Wisconsin on Thursday. I have to say the paper slam at the beginning is my favorite part.

We will be back to podcasting soon. It has been a transition year for us but we will discuss the offseason once Terrelle Pryor announces his decision and then be back in the full swing of things from that point forward. We appreciate you all continuing to listen and download the podcast and we promise to rant and rave like this guy often!

Pryor Still Thinking

There seem to be several different schools of thought on the situation with star recruit Terrelle Pryor. By delaying his decision there is no doubt that it is giving PSU a shot at reeling him in but if you watch this video he doesn't seem very enthusiastic about any of the schools he is talking about and the final question about the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry would make you think he wants to be part of that rivalry.

This reminds me a lot of the situation with Vidal Hazelton just a few years ago. Vidal's father strongly wanted him to consider PSU to the point that he wasn't ready to sign his letter of intent to USC as a way to force his son to pick PSU. Pryor's father is strongly pushing him to reconsider the Nittany Lions which in most cases gets PSU fans pumped up and hopeful, but often leads to a recruit wanting to rebel against their parent and go somewhere else.

At this point I still feel like Pryor is leaning towards Ohio State but is going to give the legendary coach and in-state program a courtesy visit and get his father off his back. What we can hope for is that by simply making this official visit he is taken in by Dear Old State the way that most of us were and he realizes that it would be a great place to play and live.

We shall see what happens over the next few weeks. Hopefully we will all be out buying #11 PSU jerseys.

Aggies Staying Classy

It seemed as if this was going to be a fun weekend of football with two strong fan bases that have great traditions and a history of respect. Well an Aggie Cheerleader stripped that away completely when he embarrassed himself and the Aggies at The Alamo Bowl Pep Rally.

JoePa had this to say about the chant, "I think everybody has to take things with a grain of salt, some young guy went up there, trying to be funny. Maybe he's accurate, I don't know."

Classic Joe, you have to love the fact that he's not sure if the cheerleader may be right about him needing a casket. A&M has apologized for the remarks and though this bothers me, getting up in arms over someone making a fool of himself is no way to spend the weekend.

More content on the way before tomorrow's game. We were hoping to have a full bowl preview show but unfortunately with the holidays and our ever changing schedules Mark and I were not able to post a new show.

We will be back after the bowl game for a recap and some thoughts on the season as a whole, plus where we think the program is headed. We appreciate you all bearing with us during this season of transition for both the podcast and the Nittany Lions.

Dan Connor Wins Bednarik

Dan Connor became the third straight Nittany Lion to win the Chuck Bednarik Defensive Player of the Year award. Of Course Poz won the last two and we all expect Sean Lee to carry on the tradition next year.

New show on the way, Mark and Mike will recap the season and discuss the upcoming rematch of the 1999 Alamo Bowl against Texas A&M.

College Gameday Coming To Happy Valley

ESPN's College Gameday is coming back to Happy Valley for the Penn State vs. Ohio State game, it should just add to an atmosphere that was already going to be ridiculous. We all remember the rain from two years ago, but still the crowd was huge for Gameday. At this point the weather report says 61 degrees and partly cloudly and if the student section wants to hold on to the top ranking they are going to have to outdo themselves once again, which I am sure they will. If you saw Lexington, Kentucky last week then you know how big a crowd there can be for Gameday and I have no doubt that PSU is capable of topping that. One way or another it will be one incredible weekend. Check back for more as the week continues.

Nittany Lions Sneak Out of Bloomington With Win

Despite not being able to capitalize on numerous opportunities, the Nittany Lions were still able to come out with a win over the Hoosiers 36-31. Penn State had three chances from the five yard line in the early going of the second half, to put the game out of reach, but could not punch it in. Fortunately the Lions put together a crucial drive in the 4th quarter to go ahead for good. The game came down to the final minute and with the Hooisers driving Qb Kellen Lewis fumbled and Abe Koroma was right on top of it to lock up the win.

Though the defense struggled at times, I'm not too concerned with the fact that they could not stop another mobile QB and James Hardy is arguably the best wide out in the Big Ten. The biggest concern from this game are the injuries that have piled up and Justin King's inability to match up with Hardy. Hardy is a stellar receiver and has 7 inches on King, but when a great corner matches a great wide receiver you would expect each to get their wins and play back and forth. King was owned by Hardy. King made one stop on third down but otherwise was victimized all day. Fortunately, that it is the last time King has to face a receiver that good, but don't forget about Robiskie who clearly is no slouch. Time to get ready for the Buckeyes who look like they're on their way to holding onto that number 1 ranking. Should be a raucous atmosphere and we will have a full breakdown before next Saturday's critical game.

Unfortunately, Ryan & I had trouble getting out a show this past week and we apologize to all of you who wait for our shows each week. We're both in an odd situation with schedules that continue to change but we plan to continue to get up content each week. We will also be working in Mark Loucks more often to help us continue to breakdown the Lions and deliver as much content to all of you as possible. Michigan may have Russell Crowe on sidelines but the Lions' have easily one of the best pump up videos in sports history.

If You Were Wondering...Yes the Refs are from Michigan

Run Up The Score has an enlightening and disturbing post regarding the "rumored" replay official for this upcoming game against the Wolverines. I was feeling optimistic but now it seems that it is almost a guarantee that the refs will once again screw Penn State out of a win. Take a look at the whole Post, but the key is the biography of this weekend's replay official Dick Honig:

"He worked as an on-field official for 22 years in the Big Ten and now works in a supervisory role and replay official for the conference while also living in Ann Arbor. He’s a 1963 graduate of the University of Michigan with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Kinesiology. He was an All-Big Ten shortstop on the Wolverines national championship baseball team in 1962. He coached for ten years at Michigan as an assistant basketball coach and assistant baseball coach.

One area of Dick’s office is a tribute to the University of Michigan. A picture with an aerial view of the stadium, several inscribed baseball bats, and the famous “Block M” memorabilia are immediately visible."

I am honestly baffled if this is being allowed. How can the conference let someone with so much invested in one of the teams be a part of the crew which can play such a huge part in the outcome? Hopefully word will get around and changes will be made before Andrew Quarless does a tap dance in the endzone and is then whistled for being out of bounds. (Yes there would be an excessive celebration penalty as well but at least the touchdown would stand)

It took us some time but Ryan & I are finally back together for a brand new edition of the Blue White Football Podcast. This week we take a look back at the Lions' season opening win versus the Golden Panthers of FIU and our thoughts on Michigan's loss. We also preview the Notre Dame game this weekend where the Lions will look to take out their frustrations from last year on brand new Irish QB Jimmy Clausen. We are still working out some kinks with our new system for recording the show as we figure out the best way to take full advantage of our microphones and technology. News from Notre Dame Practice

BREAKING NEWS:

Terror Alert at Notre Dame. South Bend, IN -

The Notre Dame football practice was delayed nearly two hours this morning after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the practice field. Head coach Charlie Weis immediately suspended practice and called the police and federal investigators. After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white substance unknown to the players was the GOAL LINE. Practice resumed after special agents decided the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again this season.

Jimmy Clausen better get used to this position for a Notre Dame QB

We apologize for the delay in this week's show as both Ryan and I are figuring out our work schedules to find a regular time to get the show up. The shows starting next week will be posted on a more regular schedule similar to last season's set up. The above was posted on a facebook group I saw and thought I would share it, hilarious. New podcast tomorrow reviewing the Lion's opening win and taking a look ahead at the Jimmy Clausen led Irish. I don't think there was a better piece of news this week than hearing that Clausen would be sacrificed to Dan Connor and Sean Lee!

Beaver Stadium Celebrates Michigan Loss!

It is such a pleasure to see a team that has had so much help in last second games against PSU finally get what they deserve. The 2007 season is finally here and the Blue White Football Podcast is finally back! It seems like it has been ages since our last show but we are finally back with a new edition of the Blue White Football Podcast. Unfortunately, Ryan & Mike could not record a show together due to some technical difficulties, which we hope to have sorted out next week, but there is still plenty of Penn State Nittany Lion news heading into this weekend's opener against FIU. Tune in to hear about the status of Andrew Quarless, the latest PSU Depth Chart, Big Ten Network issues, and much more as we get set for a brand new season. Oh and it appears Joe has found an alternate way into Beaver Stadium on Saturday (see above!). With both Ryan & I graduating a week ago, we're feeling a bit nostalgic for Dear Old State and wanted to post this video from the 2005 regular season finale against Michigan State. One of our good friends Mark Loucks filmed and edited this video after the Lions won the Big Ten Title in East Lansing in November of 2005. It is a great reminder of what a fantastic season that was and what we all hope to see again this fall as the Lions strive for another Big Ten Championship. Enjoy the summer and we're less than 100 days till the kickoff of the 2007 season.

Charges Against King, Sales, Hayes and Sargeant All Dropped!

Nittany Lion star cornerback Justin King has had all charges against him dropped, after a preliminary hearing determined that there was not enough evidence to prosecute him. King had been charged with criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and harassment stemming from the apartment fight on April 1st which led to the arrest of six PSU football players. Dan Galway, a friend of the Blue White Football Podcast, covered the preliminary hearing this morning for the Centre County Report and was kind enough to give us this video.

This is great news for the football program and not a surprise when you consider the initial word had been that King was acting as a peacemaker when he entered the apartment. Information is continuing to come out of the preliminary hearing and Mike & Ryan will be back early next week to discuss what went down in court Friday and several of the topics many of you have brought up in emails. Please keep the comments & emails coming and check back for more news as it breaks.

Update @ 6:50 p.m. 5/4/07:

After the charges against Justin King were dropped earlier this morning, three other Nittany Lions saw the same outcome late this afternoon. Tyrell Sales, Jerome Hayes, and Lydell Sargeant have all had the charges of criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and harassment dropped as well. The situations surrounding Anthony Scirrotto and Chris Baker have yet to be determined.

Blue White Podcast Brief: Six Nittany Lions Charged in Fight

Charges have been filed against six Penn State Football players Friday after an apartment fight in April left one man in the hospital.

Anthony Scirotto, Chris Baker, Justin King, Lydell Sargaent, Jerome Hayes, and Tyrell Sales are all facing charges. The arraignment for the players will take place today and more information is forth coming.

Statement from Coach Joe Paterno

"Speaking for our football staff, we are very concerned with the accusations made today and will determine the appropriate consequence for each player's status on the team when due process has transpired. Until such time, we will have no further comment regarding the situation."

Spring has finally arrived in Happy Valley and so with it, the 2007 Blue White Game. Penn Staters got their first look at some of the new numbers that will be tearing up the turf at Beaver Stadium over the next few years. The Nittany Lion fans, coaches, and players also used the game to honor those who lost their lives at Virginia Tech this past week by changing the usual S Zone into an orange and maroon VT. Sean Fitz of Blue White Illustrated Magazine joins us to discuss the Lions' recruiting class thus far and what we are likely to see before signing day this Wednesday. Note: The Lions did pick up another recruit after we taped this week's show. Chimaeze Okoli became PSU's 21st commitment on Friday after he announced that he chose to be a Nittany Lion over a Hokie of Virginia Tech. As Sean Fitz mentions on the show, Okoli was one of Penn State's final targets heading into this last week of recruiting and adds to an already solid group of players.

After an 8-4 regular season without a marquee victory the Nittany Lions traveled to Tampa, Florida for a January 1st matchup with the #17 Volunteers of Tennessee. #40 Dan Connor is Returning to Penn State!

After what seems to be an early offseason where every big time player on every big team is making the leap to the NFL, Penn State's Dan Connor is coming back for his final season with the Nittany Lions. Clearly the great performance in the Outback Bowl has given everyone confidence in the Lions heading into next year and with Connor returning to lead a solid defensive unit there is no doubt that the Penn State D will once again be one of the best in the nation.

A guy like Poz is obviously irreplaceable, but with Dan Connor, Sean Lee, Jerome Hayes, Tyrell Sales, and others carrying on the tradition of Linebacker U, next year looks to be another great season for Penn State Football. Only 231 days till FIU comes to Happy Valley! (Hopefully the Lions can avoid a fight)

Outback Bowl Highlight Video

The Lions finally put everything together in this season's finale against the Volunteers in the Outback Bowl, with an impressive 20-10 win, negating all of that SEC speed. This great rundown of the Bowl game was created by Rob Yanovitch from NC, check out some of his other videos on YouTube. Big thanks go out to Rob for putting together a great video. The big win over the SLOWER Volunteers, helped the Lions finish at #24 in the AP poll and sets them up for a great 2007.

The spring semester starts up next week, so Ryan & Mike will finally be back together to give their full reaction to the Outback Bowl, some thoughts on recruiting, and an initial outlook on the 2007 season.

Clearly this sort of behavior is inexcusable and anyone who would threaten Morelli has loss touch with reality and has cast all Nittany Lion fans in a poor light. The second note is in regards to senior defensive tackle Ed Johnson suspension from the team and its final game, the Outback Bowl. Clearly this is a big loss for Penn State, but rarely has there been a time at PSU where the punishment has not fit the crime. UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., October 19, 2006 - Quarterbacks Anthony Morelli and Daryll Clark have been cleared by the Penn State medical staff to play in Saturday's Penn State-Illinois game. Kickoff for the 87th Homecoming game is at 12:00 p.m., with a crowd of 109,000-plus expected in sold out Beaver Stadium.

Morelli and Clark suffered mild concussions in last week's game with Michigan. They have been under observation and tested by the Penn State medical staff over the past five days. Coach Joe Paterno said earlier this week that neither practiced on Monday and they returned to limited practice on Tuesday. Morelli, a junior from Pittsburgh, has started the initial seven games this season.

The thrilling win over Florida State in the Orange Bowl was one that we could not add to our archive, as we were not able to get a broadcast spot for the finale of the Penn State season. The back and forth game ended late in the night as Kevin Kelly finally knocked in the game winning field goal to give the Lions the 26-23 victory and all Penn State fans bragging rights for the long off season.

The final regular season game of the year, and what would turn out to be our final broadcast, saw the Nittany Lions traveling to East Lansing to face the Spartans with the Big Ten Title on the line. Not the best played game by Penn State, but a blocked punt by Donnie Johnson and three interceptions by Alan Zemaitis helped the Lions win 31-22 over a talented but undisciplined Michigan State team. Records fell throughout the Penn State books as the Lions racked up 56 points in the first half and Michael Robinson accounted for 6 touchdowns tying a record set in 1917. Defeating the Illini 63-10 resulted in many of younger players getting time and could prove to be a more important game than we all first thought as numerous first time starters this fall saw extended playing time. Penn State vs. Michigan 10/14/2005

A day that will go down as one of the best in college football history, will be in all Penn State Fans' minds as a day better left unmentioned. Though easily one of the most difficult losses for the Nittany Nation to endure, the Michigan game in Ann Arbor was one of the best played games that the Big Ten has seen in years. After struggling to score in the first three quarters of play, both teams came out and played a gut-wrenching final 15 minutes. Penn State quickly turned a 10-3 deficit into an 18-10 advantage after an Mrob TD and Alan Zemaitis take away TD. Michigan answered right back and followed that up with a field goal forcing the Lions to make another late drive to the take lead. With 53 seconds Mrob dove into the end zone and gave PSU a 25-21 lead. Unfortunately favorable referees and a miraculous 2 seconds gave Michigan everything they needed to pull off a last second win 27-25. 4th and 15, that basically sums it up...3-0 heading into the Big Ten season and the Lions opened up conference play at Ryan Field in Evanston, Illinois. Early struggles and four turnovers led to a 23-7 deficit for Penn State and forced Michael Robinson to lead a comeback that would go down as one of the most dynamic in Nittany Lion history. With the season on the line and Penn State trailing 27-29, Robinson completed a 20 yard pass to tight end Issac Smolko and kept hopes for a dream season alive. Derrick Williams caught his first touchdown pass for PSU on a 36 yard reception from Robinson with 51 seconds left to play sealing the 34-29 win and beginning the Lion's run to the conference title. After a week to ponder an unimpressive offense in game one, Penn State fans were back in Beaver Stadium for the Lion's second straight Big East oppenent. The PSU defense forced four Bearcat turnovers and the offense showed the first signs of big play ability with two touchdowns on plays over 40 yards. Not only did Michael Robinson find freshman for big plays he also completed a TD to tight end Patrick Hall on a botched goaline play. Penn State would go on to lead 42-10 before Cincinnati scored twice in the final minute to end the Lions 12 game streak of not allowing more than 21 points. The Nittany Lions would move to 2-0 on the season with the 42-24 victory and would prepare for one last tune up before Big Ten play began. This past Saturday ComRadio had the broadcast of the annual Blue White Game at Beaver Stadium and here is an archived version of Blue's 17-0 victory over White. First year quarterback Anthony Morelli shined even though he didn't score a touchdown and Jordan Norwood continues to surprise people with over 150 yards receiving. The rain was pelting the Nittany Lions all afternoon but 18,000 loyal fans still showed up for a look into the future of Penn State Football.

As The Blue White Game is a practice for the Nittany Lions, it is also a practice for ComRadio Broadcasters and features some more experienced announcers as well as some youngsters enjoying their first shot.
